Cheshire-based Equilibrium Asset Management has given a local autism organisation a £500 funding boost, in its latest round of charitable donations.

Cheshire Autism Practical Support (CHAPS), based in Chester, is a user-led charity that was founded in April 2010 by a group of parents of children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).

The parents felt, from personal experience, that there was a significant lack of services available to support their children and their wider families, and formed the organisation to improve the situation for those affected by autism.

CHAPS provides a wide range of activities and events for people with ASC of any age, throughout the region. It is the most all-inclusive support currently available in this operational area, targeted at both individuals and parents/carers. In 2018 alone, CHAPS hosted events for over 2,200 individuals throughout Cheshire, Warrington and Halton.

Cindy Seller, CHAPS’ business manager, said: “Equilibrium’s donation of £500 will allow our Chester Parent Support Group to run for a year, or provide staffing for our Chester Youth Club for a year. These services are a lifeline for our families, enabling, informing, and reducing isolation. Thank you so much, on behalf of everyone involved with CHAPS.”

Equilibrium’s Community Support Scheme was set up in 2015 to award grants ranging from £100 to £500 to community organisations and charities in Cheshire East, Greater Manchester and Chester and District.

With this latest handful of grants, the wealth management company has awarded over £22,000 in funds to community groups. The scheme forms a part of the company’s wider charitable strategy, anchored by The Equilibrium Foundation – which has a current donation goal of £4m by August 2028.
